Begin with a map and a plan
Where you are. Where you need to go. How to get from here to there. We’ll assess the terrain and build your map.

We believe in more than code
Diversity
- Avoiding monolithic platforms and lock-in.
- Building lightweight systems focussed on requirements rather than bloat.
Pragmatism
- Starting from where you are.
- Using best practices without succumbing to cargo cults.
- Improving systems in place and or designing afresh. Assessing which will work best for you.

Holistic approach
- Focussing on the needs of users and developers.
- Creating safe spaces for development, testing and experimentation.
- Scripting deployment and much else — automation is a superpower.
Knowledge
- All systems tend towards mystery — we love logs, monitors and notifiers.
- We create automated test suites.
- Documenting and checklisting core processes from deployment to disaster recovery.

We concentrate on Web applications and publications, mostly working with open source languages and frameworks.
We talk to our clients in plain English, but we also think deeply about code. Matt’s book, PHP 8: Objects Patterns and Practice is about to enter its seventh edition. We also write about code at HiddenHat.press.
